New to Rappelz? This guide covers everything you need to go from zero to your first dungeon run — what the game is, how to get started on Rappelz Tournament, your first steps on Trainee Island, choosing a class, your first 50 levels, basic pet setup and gear priorities.
Quick Start — 3 Steps to Play
What is Rappelz?
Rappelz is a Korean dark-fantasy MMORPG originally released in 2006. It stands out from other classic MMORPGs through its creature system — you can tame, evolve and fight alongside over 200 different monsters. The game has three playable races (Deva, Asura and Gaia), 15 master classes and a full range of content from solo farming to guild sieges.
On Rappelz Tournament the experience runs on Epic 9.6 with ×100 rates, meaning you reach endgame much faster than on official servers while keeping all the depth of the original game. It has been running since 2016 with no wipes — every character and item you earn is permanent.
Step 1 — Choose Your Race and Class
Your first decision is choosing a race at character creation. This determines which master classes are available to you later. All three races can reach endgame viably — the choice is about playstyle. Race and appearance cannot be changed after creation.
Best for players who want to heal, tank or support. Always in demand for group content.
Best starter: Mercenary — straightforward melee DPS, beginner-friendly, effective solo.
Best for players who want maximum damage. Highest DPS potential of all three races.
Best starter: Deadeye — strong ranged DPS, good solo capability, forgiving to learn.
Best for players who want pets at the centre of their playstyle. Strongest creature synergy bonuses.
Best starter: Marksman — flexible ranged DPS, good for learning core mechanics.
Step 2 — Trainee Island (Levels 1–20)
Every journey in Rappelz begins on Trainee Island. Complete all quests here before leaving — they give you your first looting pet, teach core mechanics and provide starter gear. On ×100 rates you will reach level 20 in roughly 1–2 hours.
Key NPC Locations on Trainee Island
- Trainee Officer (main quests)
- General Merchant (potions, cards, gear)
- Stable Master (rental mount)
- Evoker Rudimyu (skill trainer)
- Pet Caretaker (looting pet quest)
- Graduation NPC (exit to Rondo)
- Boat Captain (dialogue only)
Critical Skills to Learn Before Leaving
- Creature Taming — required to tame any pet. Level this up as you gain job points to increase success rate.
- Creature Control — commands your pet in battle (attack, defend, follow).
- Summon Creature — summons your tamed pet from the Creature Formation window (Alt+Y).
- Recall Creature — dismisses your pet.
Place Summon Creature and Recall Creature on your hotbar for quick pet management.
Step 3 — Your First 50 Levels
Complete the full tutorial quest chain in the starting town. These quests are your fastest EXP source at this stage, teach basic mechanics and reward starter gear. After reaching level 20 via Trainee Island, proceed to the mainland.
At level 20 with job level 10 you can transfer to your first advanced class. Visit the Job Transfer NPC in Rondo. This unlocks your first set of class-specific skills — your character becomes noticeably stronger immediately.
At level 50 with job level 50 you choose your Master Class — the final form of your character. Your Master Class determines your skills, stat priorities and role for the rest of your time playing. This decision is permanent — choose carefully. See the class tier list for guidance.
Step 4 — Your First Hours in Rondo
Bind your return point. Talk to the Innkeeper in Rondo to set your respawn location immediately — this saves travel time after death.
Accept the level 20 class advancement quest. Visit your class trainer in Rondo to unlock advanced skills for your chosen class path.
Visit the Auction House. Check for cheap starter gear — many players sell old equipment for minimal Rupees.
Join a guild. Use the Guild Board in Rondo to find a beginner-friendly guild. Guild buffs and party help are invaluable in the early game.
Head to Vulcanus Dungeon. Your primary leveling zone from levels 30–100. Party farming here is 40% faster than solo. See the full leveling guide for the complete zone progression.
Step 5 — Your First Pet
You receive a starter creature during the early quests. Do not invest heavily in it — it is a low-stage placeholder to teach you the taming mechanic. Your real priority is farming taming cards for a better creature once you reach level 30+.
- Get a Koala as your first belt pet — drop rate bonus from the start
- Get a permanent Looting Pet from Guild of Merchants
- Tame a White Dragon or equivalent at level 40+
- Level your main pet to max before evolving
- Wasting rare taming cards on creatures you’ll replace in 10 levels
- Investing in a low-stage pet you’ll combine away soon
- Skipping the Looting Pet — it saves hours of inventory management
Step 6 — Gear Basics
Don’t spend heavily on gear before you reach your Master Class. The game provides reasonable quest gear through level 50 and good farmable gear at 60–80. Once you have your Master Class stat priorities become clear and you can gear with purpose.
- Complete quest gear sets for each level bracket
- Socket soulstones into gear as soon as available
- Enhance gear to +5 minimum before moving on
- Check the player market for cheap upgrades
- High-enhancement gear you’ll replace in 5 levels
- Expensive items before Master Class selection
- Pushing enhancement above +7 on pre-100 gear
