New to Rappelz? This guide covers everything you need to go from zero to your first dungeon run — what the game is, how to choose a class, your first 50 levels, basic pet setup, gear priorities and how to join a guild. No fluff, just what actually matters.

What is Rappelz?

Rappelz is a Korean dark-fantasy MMORPG originally released in 2006. It stands out from other classic MMORPGs through its creature system — you can tame, evolve and fight alongside over 200 different monsters. The game has three playable races (Deva, Asura and Gaia), 15 master classes and a full range of content from solo farming to guild sieges.

On Rappelz Tournament the experience runs on Epic 9.6 with x100 rates, meaning you reach endgame much faster than on official servers while keeping all the depth of the original game. It has been running since 2016 with no wipes — every character you build and every item you earn is permanent.

Step 1 — Choose Your Race and Class

Your first decision is choosing a race at character creation. This determines which master classes are available to you later. All three races can reach endgame viably — the choice is about playstyle.

Deva — Support and Tank

Best for: players who want to heal, tank or support their party. Always in demand for group content.

Best starter class: Mercenary — straightforward melee DPS, beginner-friendly and effective solo.

Asura — Damage Dealers

Best for: players who want to deal maximum damage. Highest DPS potential of all three races.

Best starter class: Deadeye — strong ranged DPS, good solo capability, forgiving to learn.

Gaia — Creature Masters

Best for: players who want pets at the centre of their playstyle. Gaia classes have the strongest creature synergy bonuses.

Best starter class: Marksman — flexible ranged DPS, good for learning the game mechanics.

Step 2 — Your First 50 Levels

1–20
Tutorial quests in Horizon

Complete the tutorial quest chain in the starting town. These quests are your fastest EXP source at this stage and teach you the basic mechanics. You’ll receive starter gear and your first taming card.

20
First job transfer

At level 20 with job level 10 you can transfer to your first advanced class. Visit the Job Transfer NPC in town. This unlocks your first set of class-specific skills — your character becomes noticeably stronger immediately.

50
Second job and Master Class

At level 50 with job level 50 you choose your Master Class — the final form of your character. This is the most important choice in the game. Your Master Class determines your skills, stat priorities and role for the rest of your time playing. Choose carefully.

Step 3 — Your First Pet

You receive a starter creature during the early quests. Do not invest heavily in it — it is a low-stage placeholder to teach you the taming mechanic. Your real priority is farming taming cards for a better creature once you reach level 30+.

Beginner pet priorities
  • Get a Koala as your first belt pet — its drop rate bonus helps you farm items faster from the start
  • Tame a White Dragon or equivalent combat pet when you reach level 40+ — significantly better than starter creatures
  • Save rare taming cards — don’t waste them on creatures you’ll replace in 10 levels
  • Focus on leveling your main pet to max for its current stage before attempting to evolve it

Step 4 — Gear Basics

Don’t spend heavily on gear before you reach your Master Class. The game provides reasonable quest gear through level 50 and good farmable gear at level 60-80. Once you have your Master Class the stat priorities become clear and you can gear with purpose.

Do this early
  • Complete quest gear sets for each level bracket
  • Socket soulstones into gear as soon as available
  • Enhance gear to +5 minimum before moving on
  • Check the player market for cheap upgrades
Avoid early on
  • High-enhancement gear you’ll replace in 5 levels
  • Expensive items before Master Class selection
  • Pushing gear above +8 before Reborn 1
  • Buying items without checking drop sources first

Step 5 — Join a Guild

Rappelz is significantly better with a guild. Guilds provide access to guild dungeons, weekly Crystal Altar battles, shared knowledge and trading opportunities. On Rappelz Tournament most established guilds accept new players regardless of level — they benefit from the activity even if you’re just starting out.

  • Ask in global chat or the Discord server for guild recruitment announcements
  • Guild dungeons provide gear and materials unavailable through solo play
  • Experienced guild members can advise on class builds and pet priorities specific to your setup
  • Crystal Altar participation (even as a new player) earns guild points and is valuable experience
