Full Rappelz Epic Timeline › Epic 4 — Revolution
Released on 14 February 2008, Rappelz Epic 4: Revolution lived up to its name. One of the longest-running and most beloved Epics in the game’s history, it gave pets their own skills, let them carry weapons, rebuilt the apprentice island from scratch and opened up character customisation in ways the game had never seen before.
One of the Most Popular Epics Ever
Following the foundational work of Epic 3 — Siege for Glory, nFlavor released Epic 4: Revolution in June 2007 in Korea, with the French version arriving on 14 February 2008. It ran for close to a year in most regions — making it one of the longest-lived Epics in Rappelz history.
For many veteran players, Epic 4 is the version they remember most fondly. The changes it introduced touched nearly every aspect of the game — from how you created your character, to how your pets fought alongside you.
Pets Get Their Own Skills
The single most significant addition in Epic 4 was the introduction of pet skills. For the first time, creatures were not simply companions that followed you around and auto-attacked — they had their own skill sets, their own abilities, their own contribution to combat beyond raw damage.
Alongside this, pets gained the ability to carry and use weapons — a change that fundamentally altered how players invested in their creatures. Your pet was no longer just a stat stick; it was a character in its own right, equipped and skilled for battle.
The drop rate of creature cards was also increased in Epic 4, making pet acquisition more accessible and encouraging players to experiment with different creatures rather than sticking to the same handful.
These three changes together — pet skills, weapon equipping and improved card drops — transformed the pet system from a supporting mechanic into a core gameplay pillar. The pet system you find on Rappelz private servers today is built directly on the foundation laid here.
The Rebuilt Apprentice Island
Epic 4 completely rebuilt the apprentice island — the starting area where new players took their first steps in Rappelz. The redesign was substantial enough that the old and new versions look like entirely different zones.
Most notably, the northern mountain range where the fallen Kenta is located did not exist in the Epic 4 version. The apprentice city itself also had a different layout from the one players know in later Epics — smaller in some respects, with a distinct atmosphere that felt closer to the game’s original visual identity.
All Changes in Epic 4
Character Customisation Opens Up
Before Epic 4, your character’s skin colour was determined entirely by your chosen race — no exceptions, no customisation. Epic 4 changed that, allowing players to select a skin tone at character creation for the first time.
It was a small but meaningful step toward player identity and self-expression — something Rappelz had been sparse on in its early years. Combined with the new login screen, character selection screen and skills interface, Epic 4 gave the entire game a fresher, more polished feel from the moment you launched it.

Why Epic 4 Still Matters
Epic 4 is where Rappelz’s pet system grew up. Before Revolution, pets were companions. After it, they were partners — skilled, equipped and integral to how every class performed in the field. That shift is still felt on every Rappelz server running today.
The fact that Epic 4 ran for nearly a year in most regions says everything about how well it was received. Players did not want to leave it behind — and in many ways, the game that exists today is still shaped by the decisions made here in 2008.
