Full Rappelz Epic Timeline › Epic 1 — Rappler Creer
Before it was called Rappelz, it was called Rappler Creer — and it launched on 5 March 2005 with only two playable races, a handful of creatures and a world that looked nothing like the game we know today. This is where it all began.
The Name — Rappler Creer
Before the game became Rappelz, it carried a different name entirely — Rappler Creer. This was the very first project developed by nFlavor, the studio that would later become part of Gala Lab. The name is thought to derive from two French words: rappeler, meaning to recall or summon — a reference to the core creature mechanic — and créer, meaning to create, nodding to the creative freedom the game offered players. It is a hypothesis rather than a confirmed fact, but it fits the game’s concept remarkably well.
The concept behind Rappler Creer is over 20 years old. The closed alpha launched in November 2004, with the public beta following roughly four months later on 5 March 2005. At that point the game was already considered in an advanced state for its era — and the world players entered looked very different from anything that would come after.
What the Game Looked Like in 2005
Only Deva and Asura were available. The Gaia race did not exist yet — it would not arrive until Epic 2. Each race had a smaller selection of classes compared to what the game would eventually offer.
The cities looked significantly different from those in later Epics. Laksy — the main hub town — was far more expansive in this version. The overall map layout and zone designs were simpler but distinct from what returning players know today.
The creature roster already included names that would survive all the way to modern Rappelz — Astaroth, Windie Pixie, Forest Pixie, Ent and White Dragon all appeared in this first version. The White Dragon had a very different look, but could already be ridden by players.
The weapons introduced in Epic 1 still exist in the game today. For long-time Rappelz players and collectors, some of these original weapon models remained intact through all subsequent versions — a direct visual link to the game’s earliest days.

The First Rappelz Trailer
The very first official trailer for Rappler Creer — later known as Rappelz Epic 1 — offers a fascinating window into how the game was presented to the public in 2005. The visuals, interface design and creature animations are a direct contrast to what Epic 9.6 players experience today.

Why Epic 1 Still Matters
Rappler Creer was not a polished or feature-complete game by modern standards. It was a first beta — rough around the edges, with a small world, limited races and creatures that barely resembled what they would become. But it established the core idea that would define everything that followed: a dark fantasy MMORPG built around taming and commanding creatures, where your pets were not optional extras but central to how you played.
That concept — unchanged in its essence from 2005 to today — is why Rappelz still has an active private server community two decades later. The foundation laid in Epic 1 was strong enough to carry 22 major updates, three playable races, 15 master classes and an endgame system that rewards hundreds of hours of play. It started here.
