Full Rappelz Epic Timeline › Epic 9.9 — Twilight Underworld
Rappelz Epic 9.9 — Twilight Underworld — launched in February 2024 and stands as one of the richest content updates in the post-9.6 era. This update introduced the three-area Twilight Underworld dungeon, the powerful Twilight Armor set, the new Chaotic Phoenix boss cards, a fully reworked Medal progression system, random cross-class Talent Point skills, and raised the level cap to 250. If you are playing at or near level 220, Rappelz Epic 9.9 is the update that defines your next progression stage.
Rappelz Epic 9.9 — How to Access the Twilight Underworld Dungeon
The Twilight Underworld dungeon is locked behind two requirements: reaching level 220 and completing the King of Quizzes Talent Point quest from Epic 9.8 — Maze of the Brighten. If you have not finished that quest chain yet, it is worth completing before attempting this content. The dungeon entrance sits in the southern part of Katana.
Once both requirements are met, speak to Priest Sirkka in Northwest Katana to begin the new questline. Completing it rewards 1 Talent Point and grants permanent access to the dungeon. The full quest sequence is:
Twilight Underworld — Three Areas, One Dungeon
The dungeon is divided into three colour-coded zones. Each zone has its own enemy type and drops a unique crystal. All three crystal types are needed to craft Twilight Crystals — the core material for the new armor set. Treat this dungeon as a rotation, not a single farm spot.
Farm Timru Boss, Timru Soldiers, Timru Officers and Timru NOCs for Timru Crystals — one of three ingredients needed for Twilight Crystals.
Farm Drago Soldiers, Drago Officers and Drago NOCs for Drago Crystals — the second ingredient for Twilight Crystals.
Farm Chaotic Flight, Chaotic Nom, Chaotic Crowler and Chaotic Phoenix for Chaotic Crystals. Twilight Ore drops from all monsters across all three areas.
Twilight Crystal Recipe
×10 Timru Crystal + ×10 Drago Crystal + ×10 Chaotic Crystal = ×1 Twilight Crystal
Reaching the Chaotic Phoenix Boss
The Chaotic Phoenix does not have a guaranteed spawn. To reach it, kill both Chaotic Nom and Chaotic Crowler in the Red Area — defeating them gives a 20% chance of opening a gate to the boss platform for one minute. Once you enter through the gate, a teleport prompt appears. Note that you cannot leave the boss room until the Chaotic Phoenix is defeated, so only enter when your group is ready.
The boss drops the new Chaotic Phoenix Boss Cards and contributes to the card collection sets. Both boss cards and Chaotic Crystals can drop from this encounter.
Chaotic Phoenix Boss Cards
Three boss card variants drop from the Chaotic Phoenix, one for each archetype. Each card also has a visual effect — a red-pink lightning bolt — visible on the character. All three can be combined into their respective collection for an additional passive bonus.
Collection Bonuses (equip all 3 of a type):
The Twilight Armor Set
The Twilight Armor Set is the top-tier gear introduced in Epic 9.9. It is crafted by upgrading Lucis Armor (not Reviac’s — see craft recipes below) using Twilight Crystals and Twilight Ore, both obtained in the dungeon. The upgrade is done through the enchanting window and succeeds at 100% rate, making this fully accessible to any player who puts in the farm time. Luciad Power is extended to +40 for all Twilight Armor pieces.
Craft Recipes (Enchanting Window):
Tip: To place a full stack of materials at once, open the Combination window first, place all items there, then switch to the Enchanting window — this avoids having to add items one by one.
Rappelz Epic 9.9 — The Medal System
The Epic 9.9 Medal system adds a completely new equipment slot with its own long-term progression path. Naha Blueprints drop from all monsters inside the Twilight Underworld dungeon and are the core crafting ingredient. There are three blueprint tiers — Simple, Standard and Improved — each requiring different quantities to produce one Ordinary Medal. If the craft fails, you receive a Medal Shard; collect 10 shards to assemble one Ordinary Medal directly.
Ordinary Medal — Craft Recipes
- ×1000 Simple Naha Blueprints, or
- ×500 Standard Naha Blueprints, or
- ×100 Improved Naha Blueprints
On craft failure: receive 1 Medal Shard. Collect ×10 shards to exchange for 1 Ordinary Medal. Naha Medal Shards from previous content can substitute regular shards.
To specialise an Ordinary Medal, combine it with a Philosopher’s Scroll and a Book of Secrets (sold at the Smuggler NPC for 5 billion rupees) to identify it with random stats. Alternatively, use the Power of Change: Medal with the Book of Secrets to identify it. Once identified, combining the medal with a Strength Stone, Intelligence Stone, or Health Stone (available in the in-game store) produces the corresponding Enhanced Medal type.
Enchanting Medals:
- All medal types can be enchanted up to +32 Luciad Power.
- +0 to +20: Use Medal Cubes (purchased from the Arena Point shop) or Ancient Medal Cubes (combine 1 Medal Cube + 1 Ancient Stone). On failure, restore with Recovery Powder: Medal from the in-game store.
- +20 to +32: Requires Luciad’s Power: Medal, extracted from a +20 medal using the Luciad’s Power Extractor.
- Enhanced medals can be re-evaluated using the Blessed Power of Change: Medal (in-game store) to reroll the stat spread.
The Medal slot rewards sustained dungeon farming over many sessions — a natural complement to the leveling grind that brings you to 220+ in the first place.
Random Cross-Class Talent Point Skills
Epic 9.9 added a genuinely novel mechanic to character building: the ability to randomly unlock Talent Point skills from other classes. As you reach certain profession levels, you can gain up to 2 additional skills per pool from outside your own class tree. The chance is equal across all available skills — you cannot target a specific one. It is not possible to receive a skill from a class you currently belong to.
Each pool costs 1 Talent Point to unlock. The available skill pools are:
- Mask of Magic
- Predator of Sura
- Wild Instinct
- Apostle of Darkness
- The Ultimate Terror
- Deadly Attack
- Pure Magic
- Blessing of Purified Water
- Mystic Sword
- Fatal Link
- Angel’s Deception
- Magic Swamp
- Dissecting the Darkness
- Mana Aura Crystal
- Self-Discipline: Intelligence
- Berserk Energy
- Smooth Mana Energy
- The Doom of Reckless Magic
- Mass Magic
- Instinct of the Sharp Beast
Note: skill names listed above are as published in the official patch notes and may differ slightly from in-game text.
All Changes in Rappelz Epic 9.9
Why Rappelz Epic 9.9 Matters
Rappelz Epic 9.9 delivered three distinct long-term progression systems in a single update. The Medal slot alone is worth months of investment. The Twilight Armor set gave every class archetype a clearly defined upgrade path from the existing Lucis gear. And the cross-class Talent Point skills introduced a degree of build customisation that Rappelz had never offered before — letting players from all 15 master classes access abilities from completely different class trees for the first time in the game’s history.
The QoL changes — preserved buffs in Arena, standardised creature card durability, and the automatic repair prompt — are small in isolation but collectively reduce friction for mid-to-late game players significantly. For a full picture of where this fits in the game’s history, see the complete Rappelz Epic Timeline.
Rappelz Epic 9.9 is one of the most content-dense updates in the game’s post-9.6 history — and it set the stage for the Alcatraz dungeon content of Epic 9.10. If you are planning which class to bring into this content, the class guides cover all 15 master classes in detail.
