Full Rappelz Epic Timeline › Epic 9.5 — Trials of Devildom
Originally conceived as Epic 10, renamed and released in 2017, Rappelz Epic 9.5: Trials of Devildom finally delivered the guild buff system — a feature in development since 2014 — alongside the new Lak system, dual earrings, additional belt slots, a seventh boss card slot and a completely redesigned guild interface.
The Update That Should Have Been Epic 10
Like Epic 9.4 before it, Epic 9.5 arrived under a name that sparked debate. Gala Lab had originally designed it as Epic 10 but released it under the 9.x banner — a decision that divided opinion without changing the quality of what was actually delivered.
The guild buff system alone justified the wait. Gala had been working on it since March 2014 — it had been mentioned and anticipated for over three years before finally landing in Epic 9.5. Players who had been following Rappelz’s development closely knew exactly how long this feature had been in the pipeline.
The Guild Buff System — Three Years in Development
The guild buff system introduced a guild levelling framework where guilds could earn and spend points to unlock buffs for all their members. Guild level was increased by purchasing points with Rupys, which accumulated to raise the guild’s tier. Higher-tier guilds could unlock more powerful or more varied buff options.
The system had been studied by Gala Lab between March 2014 and February 2015 and tested in November of that year — but did not ship until Epic 9.5 in 2017. The wait was long; the result was a genuinely impactful feature that made guild membership significantly more rewarding and incentivised active guild management.
A completely new guild interface arrived alongside the buff system, giving guild leaders a cleaner and more functional home for managing their organisation.
The Lak System and Equipment Changes
Epic 9.5 introduced the Lak system — a significant expansion of the equipment and accessory framework. Several key changes arrived together:
Players can now wear two pairs of earrings simultaneously — doubling the stat and effect options from earring slots.
Two additional belt slots added. The seventh slot is exclusively for boss cards — no pets allowed in that slot.
The Stone of the Necklace (for storing Laks) and the necklace itself became independent items — previously linked, now separate.

Why Epic 9.5 Still Matters
Guild buffs are now a standard part of how Rappelz guilds operate — providing shared advantages that make organised guild membership meaningfully better than playing solo. The dual earring system doubled the options available from accessory slots. The seventh boss card slot gave endgame optimisation one more dimension to explore.
All of these systems are fully active on private servers today. Epic 9.5 may have arrived later than anyone expected and under a name nobody asked for — but what it delivered has remained central to how Rappelz is played ever since.
