Class Overview – Who is the Templar?
Race Deva The Templar is exclusive to the Deva race. Starting as a Fighter, you advance to Knight at Job Level 40, then to Paladin at Job Level 80 (original cap), and finally to Templar as the Master Class. The Templar is the game’s primary tank, with unmatched survivability, party buffs, and taunt abilities.
Role The Unbreakable Wall The Templar’s job is to absorb damage, hold enemy aggro, and protect party members. It uses heavy armour, shields, and defensive auras to reduce incoming damage while using Provocation and Holy Aura to keep monsters focused on them.
Core Skills – Must‑Max
Tanking Provocation The primary taunt skill. Forces a target to attack you for a short duration. Essential for all tanking situations. Upgrade to increase threat generation.
Passive Shield Mastery Increases block rate and reduces damage taken while a shield is equipped. Max this early.
Active Shield Strike / Shield Smash Basic damage skills that also generate high threat. Use them on cooldown to maintain aggro.
Aura Holy Aura Party aura that increases physical defence and magic defence of all party members within range. Costs mana per second but is the Templar’s signature support ability.
Active Divine Protection Self‑buff that reduces all incoming damage by 50% for 10 seconds. Use during heavy damage phases.
Threat Rotation: Provocation (on pull) → Shield Strike/Shield Smash → maintain Holy Aura → use Divine Protection when taking spike damage.
Stat Priority (High to Low)
VIT > STR > DEX > AGI
Vitality (VIT) – increases HP and physical defence. Primary stat.
Strength (STR) – increases physical attack (threat generation) and a small amount of HP.
Dexterity (DEX) – increases block rate and accuracy.
Agility (AGI) – increases attack speed (faster threat generation).
Skill Priority Order (JP Spend)
  1. Shield Mastery – passive damage reduction.
  2. Provocation – max for threat generation.
  3. Holy Aura – party defence boost; max if you often group.
  4. Shield Strike / Shield Smash – threat and damage.
  5. Divine Protection – at least 1 point; more points increase duration.
  6. Other passives – HP increase, defence, etc.
Recommended Gear & Stats
Weapon: One‑handed sword or mace + shield. The shield is mandatory for Shield Mastery bonuses. Look for VIT, HP, and Block Rate awakening lines.
Armor: Heavy armour (Plate). Prioritise VIT, HP, Physical Defence, and Magic Defence.
Accessories: Rings/necklace with VIT, HP, and Block Rate.
Soul Stones: Vitality (VIT) in every slot. Strength (STR) can be used for extra threat.
Best Pets for Templar
Primary Pet: Stone Golem (HP, P.Def) or Tortus (HP, M.Def).
Belt Pets: Stone Golem (HP, P.Def), Tortus (HP, M.Def), Yeti (STR for threat), Devil Skeleton (P.Atk).
Active Pet: A tank‑type pet (Golem, Tortus) or a pet with taunt abilities.
Talent Points (TP) Recommendation
Combat Tree: Invest in “Toughness” (damage reduction), “Vitality” (HP), “Stalwart” (defence while standing).
Support Tree: “Quick Recovery” (debuff reduction), “Aura of Haste” (party movement speed).
Magic Tree: Ignore entirely.
Playstyle & Rotation Tips
PvE (Dungeon / Raid):
  • Always keep Holy Aura active when in combat – it benefits the whole party.
  • Open with Provocation on the strongest enemy.
  • Use Shield Strike / Shield Smash on cooldown to build threat.
  • Rotate Divine Protection before large damage spikes.
  • Position bosses facing away from the party to avoid cleave.
PvP:
  • Use Provocation on enemy DPS to force them to attack you.
  • Holy Aura protects your party even in PvP.
  • Interrupt enemy casters with Shield Bash (if available).
  • Your role is to be a disruptive tank, not a damage dealer.

✨ AURAS & THREAT MANAGEMENT – DEEP DIVE

Holy Aura is the Templar’s signature group buff. It increases party physical defence and magic defence. While active, it consumes mana per second. Keep it running during boss fights and dungeon runs. Some advanced Templars take “Aura of Haste” (movement speed) from the Talent Tree for kiting.

Threat generation is a combination of taunts and damage. Provocation is a forced taunt, but Shield Strike and Shield Smash also generate high threat. Use “Blessing of Might” or “Strength” potions to increase your P.Atk for better threat. Some bosses are immune to taunt – in those cases, gear and damage are your only source of aggro.

💡 If you lose aggro, use Provocation immediately, then follow up with your highest threat skills. Communicate with your party to reduce their damage for a few seconds if needed.

📊 PALADIN vs. TEMPLAR – WHAT CHANGES

AspectPaladin (Advanced)Templar (Master)
Survivability Very high Extremely high (additional auras, passives)
Threat Generation Good (taunt + damage) Excellent (improved Provocation, extra threat skills)
Party Support Basic auras Advanced auras (Holy Aura, Aura of Haste, damage reduction)
Unique Mechanic Shield bash stun Also gains “Righteous Purpose” (HP from P.Def) and “Imbued Light” (taunt+tank stance).

💡 The Templar is a direct upgrade. The Master Class questline adds two critical tanking skills: “Imbued Light” (a powerful tanking stance) and “Righteous Purpose” (converts a percentage of your physical defence into additional HP).

🌾 SOLO PLAY & FARMING

While the Templar is a tank, it can still farm efficiently:

  • Use Holy Aura to survive large pulls.
  • Gather mobs with Provocation or by body pulling, then use Shield Strike and Heaven’s Madness (AoE skill) to clear.
  • Devote a few skill points to AoE abilities if you plan to farm solo.
  • The Templar’s high defence allows for farming zones above your recommended level.

💡 For pure farming speed, consider a secondary damage‑focused pet.
