Full Rappelz Epic Timeline › Epic 5.2 — Dragonic Age
Released 21 October 2008, Rappelz Epic 5.2 was the second and final part of the Dragonic Age — and it hit hard. The level cap jumped to 170, third parties arrived, two new ultra-high-level dungeons opened their doors, the Bear Den introduced the Carbuncle, and PvP was rebalanced from the ground up.
The Second Half of the Dragonic Age
Where Epic 5.1 expanded the pet system and added the Lost Island, Epic 5.2 pushed the game’s endgame ceiling higher than it had ever been. This was an update aimed squarely at dedicated players — raising the level cap, opening new high-level zones and dungeons, and rebalancing the competitive landscape through PvP changes.
The fact that both parts share the name Dragonic Age has created lasting confusion in Rappelz’s history — but the two Epics are distinctly different in tone and focus. Epic 5.1 built the world; Epic 5.2 challenged players to conquer it.
Level Cap Raised to 170 — Third Parties Arrive
The maximum level in Rappelz jumped from 150 to 170 in Epic 5.2 — a significant leap that gave experienced players months of new progression to work through. Alongside this came the introduction of third parties, expanding the party system and opening up new group composition possibilities for dungeon runs and open-world content.
For players who had already reached the previous cap, Epic 5.2 was a shot of adrenaline — suddenly there was more to achieve, more to grind for, more reason to keep logging in.
Two New Ultra-High-Level Dungeons
Epic 5.2 introduced two new dungeons designed for the game’s most dedicated players:
One of two new ultra-high-level dungeons added in Epic 5.2, designed for players pushing toward the new level 170 cap.
The second new UHL dungeon, offering a distinct challenge and environment alongside the Lair of the Black Claw.
The Bear Den and the Carbuncle
Epic 5.2 introduced the Bear Den — a new zone that came with its own creature: the Carbuncle. A gem-bearing creature with a distinctive jewel on its forehead, the Carbuncle quickly became a sought-after pet for its unique appearance and abilities.
A new mount was also added, purchasable from the hidden village — giving players another reason to explore off the beaten path and invest in their characters’ mobility.

Why Epic 5.2 Still Matters
Epic 5.2 closed out the Dragonic Age on a high note. The level 170 cap gave the endgame community a meaningful goalpost. The two new dungeons provided structured group content that parties could work toward together. And the Carbuncle joined the ranks of Rappelz’s most recognisable pets — still sought after by collectors on private servers today.
The auto-teleport system for new players skipping the apprentice island was a quiet but important step toward accessibility — ensuring that players who bypassed the tutorial weren’t left stranded with no clear path forward.
