Full Rappelz Epic Timeline › Epic 7.4 — Ancient Legacy
Released 22 May 2012, Rappelz Epic 7.4: Ancient Legacy completed what Epic 7.3 started. The Lydian — a creature planned since Epic 2 — finally arrived. Ethereal master gear pushed progression further. Cubric, food costumes, server buffs and group improvements rounded out the most feature-rich era in Rappelz history.
Completing the Epic 7 Vision
Epic 7.4 is often described as the update that completed Epic 7.3 — a focused release that filled the gaps left by the master class introduction and gave players the gear, creature and quality-of-life additions they needed to fully inhabit the new high-level game.
It did not try to be a landmark update. It succeeded by being exactly what was needed — finishing the work of the previous Epic and leaving the game in a polished, complete state before the transition to Epic 8.
The Lydian — A Creature a Decade in the Making
The Lydian had been planned since Epic 2 — a creature that existed in the game’s lore and data long before players could actually tame one. Lydian maps had been in the game for years. Lydian mounts were already available. But the tameable Lydian creature itself was always just out of reach — until Epic 7.4 finally delivered it.
For long-term players who had watched the Lydian’s shadow in the game since the early Epics, its arrival was a moment years in the making.
Ethereal Master Gear
Epic 7.4 introduced ethereal master gear — the combination of the ethereal system from Epic 6.3 with the master class equipment tier. This gear came with entirely new ethereal visual effects and exceptionally powerful cubing bonuses.
To give a sense of scale: the captain +20 cubing bonus on ethereal master gear was significantly more powerful than the colonel +20 that had been the previous benchmark. Ethereal master gear set a new ceiling for what players could achieve through equipment, and it became the target that endgame players chased through the rest of the Epic 7 and into Epic 8.
Food Costumes, Server Buffs and Group Improvements
One of Epic 7.4’s most memorable additions was entirely unexpected: food costumes. These wearable outfit items let players transform their character’s appearance into giant food items — hamburgers, among others — while still fighting enemies at full effectiveness. A piece of Rappelz history that still makes veterans smile.
On a more practical level, Epic 7.4 introduced server buffs — bonus effects applied to all players on the server simultaneously, creating shared benefit events that encouraged logging in and playing together. The benefit system that accompanied them gave these buffs additional layers of effect.
The group window also received meaningful improvements: players could now select party members using keyboard shortcuts, and both pets were visible in the group window — particularly useful for classes running a double invocation build.

Why Epic 7.4 Still Matters
The Lydian’s arrival closed a loop that had been open since 2006. Ethereal master gear defined the equipment ceiling for an entire era of the game. Server buffs created a shared community experience around logging in together. And food costumes gave Rappelz a quirky, memorable identity that no other MMORPG of the era matched.
Epic 7.4 is the end of the 7.x era — and it closed it well. The game that transitioned to Epic 8 was more complete, more polished and more fun than it had ever been.
Tame the Lydian on Epic 9.6
The Lydian, ethereal master gear and everything introduced across the 7.x era is alive on Rappelz Tournament. Epic 9.6, running since 2016 — no wipes, no P2W.
